DIGITAL FOOTPRINT

 A trail of data left behind while using the internet, whether on purpose or accidentally, is known as a digital footprint. 

It consists of:

  • posts on social media

  • Passwords

  • Online acquisitions

  • Internet Protocol addresses

  • websites that were visited

  • Looks conducted

  • Clicked on advertisements

Email footprints, which are left behind after sending or receiving emails, can also be considered a type of digital footprint.

Digital traces may be either inactive or active. Websites that gather information about a user's online activities without the user's knowledge are said to leave a passive digital footprint. Websites may, for instance, store a user's browsing history or IP address.

Additional categories of digital traces consist of:
a favorable digital footprint
adverse digital footprint

An individual's internet reputation can be seen in their digital footprint.
